In Shreveport, a city located in the state of Louisiana, United States, a severe act of violence has left eight children and one other individual dead in a shooting incident described by police as being linked to a domestic dispute.

According to reports from international media outlets including BBC News in collaboration with CBS News, the attack occurred on Sunday morning local time, when the suspect allegedly opened fire on 10 people before fleeing the scene.
Police confirmed that the victims were children aged between one and 14 years old, including one child who was not a member of the family but was present at the location.

After carrying out the shooting, the suspect attempted to escape and reportedly carjacked a vehicle. Law enforcement officers later tracked him down to Bossier Parish, where he was fatally shot during an encounter with police.

Authorities also reported that two women, including the mother of the children, were critically injured and are currently receiving medical treatment in hospital.
Police stated that one surviving child managed to escape by jumping from the house and alerted authorities, which helped initiate a rapid response and investigation.

Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux described the incident as one of the most tragic events the city has ever experienced, urging the community to come together in support of the affected families.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the exact motive behind the attack, although early findings suggest it was related to domestic conflict.

The incident is being reported as one of the deadliest mass shootings in the United States so far this year, reigniting debates over gun violence and public safety.
